Game Name: About Face Echo
Game Type: Explore4 a.k.a. Fall Of The American Empire
GM Notes: I need a break after back-to-back Explore! variant experiences. If I ran another Explore! game now I'd be easily diagnosed as an addict and need a 12-step program.
And since I have NO desire to lay on a couch and share my innermost roadkill I must offer my Redscape family a different experience at this time.
So, I've decided to run a fifth game of a variant I have only seen myself run here; Explore4 a.k.a. Fall Of The American Empire. This is a variant played via Realpolitik but it does not come with Realpolitik when you first download it.
If you want to follow along with Realpolitik you will need to download the variant and place it's folder in your Realpolitik variant folder on your drive. This variant can be downloaded here:

VARIANT INFO:
FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE (Empire4)
A Variant of Diplomacy by Vincent Mous (96-98)
** Setting:
* It's January 1999 and the United States of America has been dissolved.
The country is in ruins and in a state of anarchy except 5 states where new 'Republics' have arisen. Florida, Texas and California maintain some semblance of order within their old borders. In the north-east, New York has formed a union with Pennsylvania and New Jersey to stand together in the coming wars. Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis have done likewise, calling themselves the 'Heartland' of America...
* Canada has split up and may soon be in a state of civil war. Meanwhile, the events in the United States have caused Quebec to secede from Canada. Western Canada soon followed suit, under the leadership of British Columbia and joined with American renegades in Alaska. The central Canadian government has fallen and is in disarray...
* Mexico has been reduced to the states around Mexico city. In the south, the increasingly strong drug lords and industrial mafia have rested control of northern Mexico away from the government, while the rebellion of Chiapas has spread to other southern Mexican states. Under siege, Mexico's government prepares to strike back...
* Cuba and Peru, stronger than ever, are building up their militaries. Taking advantage of the chaos on the North American continent, Cuba invades Jamaica and prepares to spread its influence further abroad, while Peru takes control of Colombia and turns its eyes northwards...
* What will the New World Order look like in North America? This is the setting at the start of the Empire variant of Diplomacy, where you play one of 10 new or old nations in a bid to conquer North America. Can you lead your country to North American domination?
** Countries:
BC (B): F Anchorage, A Calgary, A Vancouver
California (C): A Los Angeles, F San Diego, A San Francisco
Florida (F): A Jacksonville, F Miami, A Tampa
Heartland (H): A Chicago, A Milwaukee, A Minneapolis
NewYork (N): A New Jersey, F New York City, A Philadelphia
Quebec (Q): A Montreal, F Quebec City, F Ungava
Peru (P): A Bogota, F Cali/NC, F Lima
Texas (T): A Dallas, F Houston, A San Antonio
Cuba (U): F Havana, A Holguin, F Kingston
Mexico (X): F Guadalajara, A Mexico City, A Veracruz
** Map Notes:
* Great Lakes
Fleets cannot move directly from one Great Lake to another, except from Lake Michigan to Lake Huron.
* Canals
There are a few one-space canals that act like Kiel in Vanilla dip. This means that the spaces have no coasts and fleets can exit on any side.
- Panama
- Ontario
- Michigan
- Upper Peninsula
- Chicago
Empire 4 has one more Canal, the Hudson Canal between New York City and New York State. Fleets can move from one to the other.
* Waterways
There are two waterways in Empire4 where fleets can move as though there were a coastline in the listed territories. These rivers do not impede army movement:
- Mississippi (Chicago, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Deep South, Louisiana)
- St-Lawrence (Beauce, Montreal, NYS, Ontario, Quebec, Gaspe)
For example, a fleet could move from Tennessee to any of Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas or Deep South.
* Landbridges
- Units can move between Ungava and Nunavut. This does not block movement between Hudson Bay and the Sea of Labrador.
- Units can move between Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. This does not block movement between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
RULES: Redscape House Rules will be used; you can find them here:
http://www.redscape.com/forum/.....hp?t=37209
Anything not covered here will be resolved via the absolute supreme almighty wickedly-cool power of the GM with the consultation of one or more fellow Redscape GM's as needed.
RANK: Adjutant+ (must have a Redscape ID to play)
VICTORY CRITERION: First player to have 30 or more centers at the end of an Autumn turn. Alternative game end may occur as the result of a unanimous DIAS or Solo vote by all active players. Votes cannot be requested prior to 2005-Spring (after 6 full game years).
POWER ASSIGNMENTS: If desired, but not required, you can submit preferences when you sign up (usually best to email them to the GM vs. posting preferences). They will be honored if possible and where they cannot then random assignment by the GM will seat this game.
MAPS: Yes, Realpolitik maps.
DEADLINES:
Movement: Tuesdays @ 0600 - US Central (GMT -6hr)
Retreat: Wednesdays @ 0600 - US Central (GMT -6hr)
Adjustment: Thursdays @ 0600 - US Central (GMT -6hr)
YES- That is 6 A.M. my-time-zone on these days. My schedule now requires me to adjudicate shortly after I awake in the morning. Therefore do all you can to avoid waiting until the day/half-day before the deadline to present me questions, clarifications or delay requests.
FORUM: In large part due to my schedule and since I do not have access to Redscape from work, and I cannot guarantee getting to Redscape on a nightly basis; this game will be run primarily via email and secondarily via the Redscape game forum. The Redscape game forum will be set up and serve as a reference for the rules. As well all players will have access to post any smack-talk they desire. And I will post game results on Redscape as often as I can but don't expect a forum posting with each turn. Bottom line, do not communicate directly with me on anything you want a timely response on in the forum.
GAME HOST: Roadkill315
SIGN UP: Please post here your intent to play AND include your email address. I will make a point to check Redscape frequently enough to stay on top of the sign up and confirmation period. You can also email me directly: Roadkill315.Diplomacy (at) gmail (dot) com

Played this variant quite sometime ago, had to drop out before the game finished though so I think I'll sign up and try to finish it this time (or atleast die trying).
Prefs, whatever I'm easy.

I'd love to but must decline. GM duties and 2 games to play will not allow it.
I was playing this (quite successfully!) recently on goonDip (which crashed and all games were lost).
I was Texas and had formed a fairly decent partnership with Mexico; 9 centres each or so. New York was the chip leader on 13 I think - make of that what you will.

Ooh, looks like a fun map, and how can I pass up an opportunity to represent the home team?
1st choice is British Columbia, no prefs after that.

I'd prefer NY... represent the hometown and all. Other than that, go nuts, I'll do whatever works for the board
